MOUNT VERNON — A graveside service for Kenneth H. Saunders, 82, of Mount Vernon will be held Friday, April 30, at 1 p.m. at Wilson Cemetery, Newark, with Alan Pratt officiating.

Ken died April 26, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital, Mount Vernon. He was born May 21, 1927, in Lock to the late John H. and Mary V. (Brown) Saunders. Ken graduated from Homer High School, retired from Mount Vernon Development Center and drove a school bus for seven years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a lifetime member of the Community Conservation Club, a 50-year member of the American Legion, Post 0136, Mount Vernon, a member of the Moose Lodge and the Coon Hunters Club for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Pauline C. (Freeman) Saunders, son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Saunders, all of Mount Vernon; stepson, David and Elaine Newton of Smithfield, Va.; stepdaughters, Barbara Sue Rose of McConnelsville and Deborah Wheeler of Mount Vernon; two grandsons, Kenneth and Matt Saunders; six stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Lucille Saunders of Newark.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mabel Knowlton.
