MOUNT VERNON — Alfred B. “Petey” Lopez, 88, of Mount Vernon passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Santa Paula, Calif., to the late Frank and Theresa (Beltran) Lopez. Petey was a member of the Santa Clara-Santa Cruz, Labors Hod-Carriers Union Local 270. He attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, enjoyed watching wrestling matches, taking walks, tinkering with antique watches and working in his yard. Petey could always be found in a good mood and enjoyed talking to his neighbors.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Lopez of Mount Vernon; a sister, Gloria Torres of Vallejo, Calif.; close family friends, Judith (Freitas) Bailey of Mount Vernon, Juanita Freitas of Mount Vernon; Goddaughter, Candace B. Bailey of Columbus; the little ones, Jesse, Mason and Emma Bailey; cousins, Mary, Carmen, Salvador, Henry, Joe Beltran and Connie (Beltran) Campos of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nieves Lopez; and a brother, Manuel Lopez.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as celebrant.

He will always be loved and missed. Go with God, daddy I love you.
