MOUNT VERNON — Nora Creta Blanchard, 85, of Mount Vernon passed away
Friday morning, May 14, 2010, in the Palliative Care Unit at Knox Community Hospital
surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 10, 1924, in Bicknell, Ind., daughter of the late Lewis R.
and Grace Ellen (Deal) Clary. She was a graduate of Orville High School and moved
to the Knox County area in 1946. Creta had been employed at Cooper Energy Services
in Mount Vernon for more than 20 years and retired as their traffic manager.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and the Rake and
Hoe Garden Club. Creta enjoyed golfing and had participated in the Cooper’s
Golf League. She also enjoyed playing bridge and working in the gardens at her
home.
Creta is survived by her daughter, Sandra (John) Rice of Ottawa Lake, Mich.;
sons, William A. (Teri) Blanchard Jr. of Howard and Thomas M. (Deborah) Blanchard
of Mount Vernon; her grandchildren, Holly (Brad Hubiak) Blanchard-Hoar, Kathryn
(Frank) Harriman, Brian (Halley) Blanchard, Mark (Katie) Blanchard, Stephanie
(Jesse) Olrich and John Rice; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Creta was preceded in death by her husband, William
A. Blanchard Sr., on Feb. 17, 1985; and brothers, Lewis R. Clary Jr. and Leonard
R. Clary.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home,
201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Marvin Haught officiating. Burial
will follow in Mound View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from
5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour before the funeral service at the funeral home.
