MOUNT VERNON — Samuel W. Vance, 71, of Mount Vernon passed away Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 5, 1939, in Philadelphia, Miss., son of the late Orvie and Beatrice (Reagan) Vance. Samuel was a Registered Surveyor in the state of Ohio and in 1984 started Vance Surveying in Mount Vernon. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio.
Samuel is survived by his wife, Mary L. (Shanyfelt) Vance, whom he married Sept. 22, 1964; a son, Samuel R. (Belynda) Vance of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Lisa (Greg) Carpenter of Mount Vernon; two granddaughters, Jillian Vance and Kerra Carpenter; two great-grandchildren, Delaney and Kale “Little Sam”; a brother, David (Mona) Vance of Jackson, Tenn.; and a sister, Janice (Larry) Johnson of Gonzales, La.
In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by sisters, Alice and Ann.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be Friday, June 4, at 1 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Gerald Bell officiating.
