NEWARK — A funeral service for Gordon E. Saunders, 86, of Newark will be held Tuesday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at Law-Baker Funeral Home with Minister Cory Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.

Gordon died June 5, 2010, at his residence. He was born June 13, 1923, in Knox County to the late John H. and Mary V. (Brown) Saunders. First and foremost Gordon was a dairy farmer. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion, Post 804. Gordon retired from Georgia Pacific in Newark and was a Homer school bus driver.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary L. (Fidler) Saunders of Newark; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cynthia Saunders of Ethelsville, Ala., and Marvin Saunders of Newark; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Baney of Ashland, Anita and Kenny Wonders of Wellston, Rose and Mike Dodd of Heath, Dawn and Mark McCoy of Hebron, and Eve and Dave McDonald of Newark; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and family dog, Darla.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Saunders; brother, Kenneth Saunders; and sister, Mabel Knowlton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, OH 43058-0430.
