CENTERBURG — Cecil “Johnny” Thompson, 77, of Centerburg passed away Monday, June 7, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 13, 1932, in Fort Gay, W.Va., to Edgar and Blanche (Ball) Thompson. He was married to Grace (Conkle) Thompson in 1956. He was employed and worked in Columbus in the construction trade as a lather and carpenter and retired in 1996. He served as a paratrooper during the Korean War from 1951-54.

He is survived by his loving wife, Grace (Conkle) Thompson; sons, Doug (Becky) of Centerburg, Randy (Debbie) of Fredericktown, Jeff of Sunbury and Alan (Jennifer) of Mount Vernon; daughter, Kimberly Schwartz of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jennie, Jessie, Corissda, Josh, Brittany and Chase; great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Nathaniel, Trevor, Dillon and Lilly; brothers, Wetzel (Mary) Thompson of Mount Vernon and Howard Thompson of West Virginia; sisters, Donna (Carroll) Harris of Marengo and Patti (Ray) Barnheartd of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents, Edgar and Blanche Thompson; and sister, Helen Bywaters.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, 49 W. Church St., Centerburg, where service will be Thursday, June 10, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Carl Hankins will officiate. Interment will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.
