Jess was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a tank mechanic in the 369th Ordnance Company, Fort Bragg, from 1953-55.
Jess loved his family, animals, music and books. Over the years he enjoyed photography, drawing and painting, woodworking, watching baseball and football and working on cars. He was a true “character,” who always had a ready smile and a tease for his favorite people. He was also known for his beautiful blue eyes, which he passed on to all his children, and his skill at dancing the two-step to songs such as “Pop-A-Top.”
At his request, there will be no funeral service. Family and friends are welcome at calling hours at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, on Sunday, June 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. Some of his favorite music will be played.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating in Jess’ memory to an animal care charity of donor’s choice or donating to the good work of the Kobacker House, 3595 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43214.
