MOUNT VERNON — Minxie S. Fithian, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away peacefully, in her home, early Thursday morning, June 10, 2010.
Minx was born Nov. 7, 1927, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Davis W. and Annabeth Heckard Harrison. After graduating from Purdue University, she married Edwin J. Fithian Jr., on Nov. 1, 1949, in Grove City, Pa. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1997 — they are together once again — for eternal life.
Beyond being a full-time Mom, Minx was a lay reader at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (for 25 faithful years and being the first woman licensed in Ohio to serve the chalice) and a member of the ECW and vestry person, a longtime member of Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority (providing meals on wheels and testing ears), a member of several book clubs, bridge clubs, a longtime member of the Mount Vernon Country Club — where she enjoyed golfing and for many years helped run the Junior Golf program: she was a “swim team Mom” for 3 “waves” of kids — and above all a truly empathetic ear to countless friends.
Minx is survived by her daughter, Catherine S. Fithian; sons, Michael J.C. (Joan) Fithian and Bruce D. (Sandra) Fithian; grandchildren, Chelsea Fithian, Benjamin Fithian, Bradley Fithian and Lauren Fithian.
The Fithian family will receive friends Sunday, June 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 14, with a reception to follow at the Parish Hall across the street. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements for the Fithian family.
In Minx’s memory, in lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to either Hospice of Knox County or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. To express a condolence or share a memory with the Fithian family, please visit www.dilleylasater.com.
