HOWARD — James Charles “Jim” “Catfish” Mayer, 61, of Howard died June 11, 2010, at LPN Health Care Facility in Newark.
He was born May 25, 1949, in Mount Vernon and was the son of the late Marcel and Myrtle (Spearman) Mayer. Jim was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army Reservist and was in the National Guard.
He is survived by his brother, Bob (Andy) Mayer of Newark; nephew, Rob (Laura) Mayer of Arizona; a niece, Michelle Mayer of Newark; cousin, Carol (Ron) Krysiak; and good friends, Judy (Carl) Askew and John Howard.
Jim was preceded in death by a niece, Gail Lynn Mayer-McMorris.
Family and friends of Jim may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Pastor Don Matolyak officiating. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council will conduct military graveside rites. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Jim Mayer family.
