MOUNT VERNON — Okey L. Dalton Sr., 82, of Mount Vernon died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness.
Okey was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Marlinton, W.Va., to Guy Dalton Sr. and Lora (Webb) Dalton and graduated from Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro, W.Va. He served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War and moved to Mount Vernon on June 5, 1959. He retired from the Weyerhaeuser Corp. in Mount Vernon, where he had been employed as a supervisor.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Starks) Dalton, whom he married Oct. 11, 1958; his sons, Okey L. (Kelly) Dalton Jr. of Mount Vernon and Larry (Brenda) Dalton of Danville; his grandchildren, Natalie Dalton and Trina Ward; great-grandson, Zachary Ward; his brother, Richard Dalton; and sisters, Elva Hill of Marlinton, W.Va., and Dottie Barker of Parkersburg, W.Va.
Besides his parents Okey was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Farmer; and brothers, Guy Dalton Jr. and Sidney Dalton.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday one hour before the funeral service.
