PERRYSVILLE — George Bernard Steinman, 100, of rural Perrysville died Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010, in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, after an extended illness.

Mr. Steinman was born July 22, 1909, in Sutton, W.Va., the son of the late Charles and Edna May (Dickson) Steinman. He was a 1929 graduate of Jeanette (Pa.) High School and he attended Carnegie Institute of Technology. George was a resident of the Perrysville-Loudonville area most of his life before moving to the Ohio Veterans Home approximately three years ago. He was a welder at The Flxible Co., retiring in 1967. He had also worked at Westinghouse Electric in Mansfield and operated an Allis-Chalmers dealership in Loudonville in the 1950s. He served as sexton for the Sandridge Cemetery in Hanover Township for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. On July 23, 1949, he married Vesta Lee and she died Oct. 26, 1990.

He is survived by one brother, Charles Steinman of rural Danville; numerous nieces and nephews, including, Sharon and Roger Stevens of Butler, Susie and Gary Carpenter of Howard, Doug and Phyllis Steinman of Wooster, and Betty and Bob Markel of Perrysville; and extra nieces, Nancy Caldwell and Jane Bates.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Hunter Steinman; and one sister, Mary Corbin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25, at 11 a.m. in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with the Rev. Roy Godfrey officiating. Burial with military services conducted by the American Legion and VFW will be in Sandridge Cemetery. Friends may call Friday one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
