NEW YORK, N.Y. — Marjorie K. McGoldrick, 88, of New York, N.Y., formerly of Martinsburg, died at her residence on July 1, 2010.
She was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to the Reece G. and Hazel V. (Finger) McGoldrick. She graduated from Utica-Washington High School in 1938 and received a scholarship to Ohio University in Athens. She attended OU from 1938 to 1941; then she enrolled in Butler University until 1943. On May 11, 1943, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy WAVES and for the majority of her service she was stationed in Memphis, Tenn. She was honorably discharged on Nov. 5, 1945. In 1946, she moved to Chicago where she attended the University of Chicago; then in 1948 she moved to New York City and enrolled in New York University and graduated with a BA degree in 1949. Subsequently, she worked for several publishing companies and for a number of years before retiring, she was an administrative assistant at Parsons Brinckerhoff, an engineering firm. Marjorie was a member of the WAVES National and the Grove Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel V. in 1969; and her father, Reece G. McGoldrick in 1976.
She is survived by her sister, Lois M. Stewart of New York, N.Y.; and several cousins.
Graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at Union Grove Cemetery. Graveside military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
