MOUNT VERNON — Glen A. Dorton, 86, of Mount Vernon passed away July 5, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born May 31, 1924, in Hammond, Ind., to Glen A. and Melba M. (Soderstrom) Dorton Sr. Glen was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the McKinley Lodge 712 F&AM, Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine Temple, Old Homestead Club and the Mount Vernon Country Club. He retired from Copper Energy Services in 1994 after 45 years of service. Glen was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran in the 9th Air Force receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medals.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Melva M. (Hughes) Dorton; a son, Jeffrey H. Dorton of Hamilton; a daughter, Amanda (Glen) Greenwood of Lancaster; sister, Lorraine Garrott of Brookston, Ind.; three grandchildren, Adam (Lesley) Greenwood, John (Alicia Bibler) Greenwood and Sara Lee (Luke Penington) Dorton; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Greenwood.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregory Alan Dorton; brother, Robert Dorton; and a grandson, Eric Greenwood.

A memorial service is being planned by the family and will be announced in the Mount Vernon News. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Dorton family.
