MOUNT VERNON — Ruth P. Cleland, 94, of Yauger Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Country Club Retirement Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 19, 1915, in Delaware to the late Delacy and Stella Belle (Carney) Brookens. Ruth was a graduate of Brown High School in Kilbourne, Ohio, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon.

She is survived by three sons, John (Marilyn) Cleland of Gambier, William (Jo) Cleland of Delaware and C. Edward (Jeri) Cleland of Rudolph, Ohio; a daughter, Mary (Robert) Crumm of Mount Vernon; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Cleland; a daughter, Sarah Cleland; and a sister, Louise Cowman.

The family will observe a private graveside service in Green Mound Cemetery near Delaware, Ohio.
