MOUNT VERNON — Marjorie A. Ostrander, 90, of Mount Vernon died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Marjorie was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Ashland County to Grant and Rhoda (Fickes) McCready and was a 1938 graduate of Hayesville High School. Marjorie was one of the first women employed by the Ashland Sohio service station and helped her late husband manage Ostrander Lincoln Mercury and Ostrander Chevrolet in Mount Vernon.
Marjorie was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, was a former member of the Parent Teachers Association in Perrysville and a Girl Scout leader in Perrysville. She also had been a Sunday School Teacher at the Perrysville Baptist Church.
Marjorie had been a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Jack I. Ostrander; and a loving mother to her daughters, Beverly McKinley, Bonnie (Dusty) Rogers, both of Mount Vernon, Betsy (Boris) Lavric of Gahanna, Brenda (Mike) Martin of Mount Vernon and Barbara Ostrander of Westerville; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Esther Raubenolt and Lois (Stanley) Camp, both of Ashland, June Wateska of Illinois and Joanne McCready of Ashland; sisters-in-law, Miriam McCready of Hayesville, Imogene Coffey of Indiana and Thelma Sheats of Florida; and a brother-in-law, Owen Ostrander of Mansfield.
Besides her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by brothers, Hugh McCready and Warren McCready; and sisters, Glorene Gebhart, Ada Smeltzer and Mabel Boyd.
Friends may call today, July 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
