MOUNT VERNON — Richard C. McPeek, 77, of Melick Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010, at his home.
He was born Jan. 14, 1933, in Mount Vernon to the late Searle and Marie (Hays) McPeek. Richard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Mount Vernon. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and spending quality time with his family and friends. Richard attended First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by three sons, Robert (Carrie) McPeek of Burlington, N.C., Randy (Jennifer) McPeek of Pataskala and Stuart McPeek of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren, Jared (Ashlie) McPeek, Ashley Christina McPeek, Lauren Nichole McPeek, Mira McPeek, Kayla McPeek, Megan McPeek, Kaitlin McPeek and Jacob McPeek; a great-grandson, Jax Ryder Randall McPeek; a sister, Connie Reef of Reynoldsburg; and brother-in-law, Bryant and Sue Fox.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Dean (Graves) McPeek; and three brothers, Ralph McPeek, Robert McPeek and James McPeek.
Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
