MOUNT VERNON — James Kelley Tighe, 85, of South Catherine Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, in his office at 104 E. Vine St., Mount Vernon.

He was born April 13, 1925, in Mount Vernon to James W. Tighe and Margaret Kelley Tighe. He was a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon; a graduate of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School; and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater on the USS Charles Ausburne, a destroyer in World War II. In July 1946, James entered the James W. Tighe Insurance Inc. with his father and later was president of James W. Tighe and Son Agency Inc., and vice president of Tighes’ Insurance Agency Inc.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 847, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a member of Columbus Athletic Club, Shamrock Club of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Akron and West Side Irish American Club of Cleveland and a member of the Mayo Society in Greater Cleveland. He was a former member of the Mount Vernon Country Club and the Old Homestead Club.

Mr. Tighe is survived by three sons, Terence J. Tighe of Mount Vernon, James W. (Leslie) Tighe II of Lakewood, and Kevin J. (Deborah Bradshaw) Tighe of Columbus; two grandsons, Timothy C. and Michael J. Tighe; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years on Jan. 17, 2000, Helen Kaler Tighe; and a sister, Elizabeth Tighe Magnuson.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 5, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Cemetery Fund, 303 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050, in James Kelley Tighe’s memory.
