NEWARK — A celebration of the life of Richard “Dick” Quack will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Heath Church of Christ, 1331 Chapel Way, with Pastor Ray Linn presiding. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, and one hour prior to the church service on Monday beginning at 10 a.m. Interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery will follow Monday service with the Licking County Veterans Alliance rendering military honors.
Mr. Quack, 76, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Selma Markowitz Hospice Care Center in Newark. He was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Mount Vernon to his late parents Wilbert C. and Mary (Spearman) Quack. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He served as fire chief at Rockwell Standard and retired from the Newark Air Force Base as an assistant fire chief after 25 years of civilian service with the Air Force. He was the owner of Quack Fire Equipment Co. for 23 years. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Newark Township Fire Department as well.
Richard devoted his life to saving and protecting the lives and property of others. He was a longtime member of the Heath Church of Christ, of the Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary, Heath Police Auxiliary, Hebron American Legion Post 285, The International Fire Chiefs Association and the National Association of Fire Equipment Dealers. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting each of our 50 states at least twice, along with 31 foreign locations.
Richard is survived by his cousins, Peggy (Cloyd) Yough of Mount Vernon, Sally (David) Dauphin of Sunbury, Marjorie (LaVerne) Dugan of Newburgh, Ind., Raymond (Maxine) Brown of Lexington, Marilyn (Eugene) Staats of Mount Vernon; and a special friend, Nancy Strider of Newark.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Quack was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years and 10 months, Patricia Ann (McCracken) Quack; his son, Steven Michael Quack; and a sister, Joyce Lahren.
