COLUMBUS — Margaret McCabe, 96, of Columbus passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Born Nov. 1, 1913, in Ashville to the late Walter N. and Carrie M. (Hines) Hedges, she was a graduate of Ashville Harrison High School, where she played basketball, and she attended The Ohio State University. She worked several years at the Columbus Greyhound Bus Terminal, and she volunteered at Riverside Hospital in physical therapy for over 30 years. She was an active member in the local AARP and a member of North Broadway Methodist Church. She was an avid OSU football and basketball fan, and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. For the past 12 years, she was a resident of Friendship Village of Columbus.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence H. McCabe; brother, Chester B. Hedges of Ashville; and sister, Priscilla Storms of Portland, Ore.
She is survived by daughters, Patricia (Wirt) Whittaker of Westerville and Cynthia (Edward) Miller of Mount Vernon; sister and best friend, Lucile Cook of Columbus; grandchildren, Scott Whittaker of Rockville, Md., Mark (Lisa) Whittaker of Plano, Texas, and Amy (Charles) Statler of Mount Vernon; great-grandson, Zachary Statler; and several stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. Margaret was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High St. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
