HILLSBORO — Mary Irene (Scoles) Williams, 72, of Hillsboro passed away July 28, 2010, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

Born on the first day of spring, March 21, 1938, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Vivian Marcella Dile and Walter Clarence Scoles. She was a graduate of the class of 1956 in Danville and was a longtime resident of Mount Vernon. She worked at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center, where she was the “one-man-band” that kept the Medicaid Office running, until retiring and moving to Hillsboro in 2003. She was truly a special woman and everyone she met would say she never had a mean bone in her body. She loved helping others and her life revolved around her children, grandchildren and many “adopted“ children. She was an enthusiastic participant in life, loved doing jigsaw puzzles, enjoyed animals, was an avid recycler, a homemaker who especially enjoyed doing her own yard work, a voracious reader of the newspaper, and a huge Ohio State basketball and football fan (the lawn would have to wait).

She is survived by her children, Larry Williams of Athens, Bruce (Bonnie) Williams of Atoka, Tenn., and Lisa (Tom) Oglesby of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Gera, Grace and Hayden Williams of Atoka, Tenn., and Meredith Oglesby of Hillsboro; nieces and nephews, and many close and dear friends, including Shelia Bartok and Nancy Shafer. She made every day, whether it be a holiday, special occasion or an ordinary day, more spectacular because of her love of life. Her family will always be grateful for her deep religious beliefs, love of family, and will miss her sense of humor, her wonderful and beautiful smile, but most importantly her companionship. She will be deeply missed by all.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hooper of Columbus and the staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital for their outstanding care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

Family will receive friends at a reception to celebrate her life on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 4 p.m. in the Great Room at the Mount Vernon Developmental Center.
