COLUMBUS — Richard E. Oden, 86, of Columbus died Aug. 2, 2010, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1923, in Columbus to Elias Edward and Ada (Allard) Oden. He was a World War II Army veteran; a metallurgist for Battelle; served in the Army Reserves at Fort Hayes; and was an Auxiliary Policeman for the Columbus Police Department.

Surviving are sisters, Ruth Hand of Columbus, Margaret Klinedinst of Galena; nephews, Richard Hand of Mount Vernon, Chip Klinedinst of Sunbury; niece, Barbara Shears of Cardington; three great-nieces; three great-nephews; friend, Keith Hinton.

Preceded in death by nieces, Cheryl O’Neal and Connie Hand; brother-in-law, Jim Hand; a great-niece; and a great-nephew.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Union Cemetery.
