MOUNT VERNON — Karen “Sue” Walpole, 58, of Mount Vernon passed away Aug. 14, 2010, at her residence surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born Sept.. 18, 1951, in Mount Vernon to Robert Floyd and Ethel Marie (Grubaugh) Hines.
She was a 13-year employee of Ariel Corp.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Richard C. Walpole; two sons, Rodney Shaw of Mount Vernon, Chris (Kelly) Shaw of Big Prairie; four grandchildren, Jessica, Olivia, Hallee and Annaliese; brothers, Gerald (Priscilla) Hines of Millwood, Randy (Myrtle) Hines and Mike (Susan) Hines, both of Mount Vernon; one sister, Laura (Scott) Waters of Mount Vernon; three stepchildren, Crystal (Alfred) Cleveland of Marengo, Don (Becky) Walpole of Centerburg and Dave (Lori) Walpole of Reynoldsburg; a brother-in-law, Philip (Carol) Walpole of Newark; sister-in-law, Joyce Pierce of Salt Lake, Utah; four uncles, Jim (Mary) Grubaugh, Stanley Grubaugh, Robert Grubaugh and Andy Grubaugh; two aunts, Patricia Addy and Judy (Dave) Starmer; great-great-aunt, Grace Lahmon; two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Linda (Alfred) Hutchinson, Helen Chandler and Bob Blubaugh; and her beloved dog, Joha.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Hines Jr.; grandparents, Raymond C. (Carrie) Hines and Earl (Sarah) Grubaugh.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Terry McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow in Brandon Cemetery.
