FREDERICKTOWN — Georgette Adkins, 83, of Fredericktown died early Wednesday morning, Aug. 18, 2010, at the Morrow County Hospital.

She was born in New York City on Sept. 21, 1926, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (McEvenie) Porter. In 1942, Georgette married Audley Adkins and they lived in New Jersey until his retirement when they moved to Morrow County in 1981. Their union and friendship lasted 53 years until his death in 1995. She was a proud wife, mother and homemaker. Georgette was a member of the American Legion in Lincoln Park, N.J., and the YMCA in Mount Vernon where she and a group of friends enjoyed water aerobics and other activities. She was also a member of the local Red Hat Society.

Very active and outgoing, you could find Georgette shopping, playing jigsaw puzzles on the computer, or reading anything she could get her hands on. Talkative by nature, Georgette made friends easily and never met a stranger. Above all, her family was the most important part of her life and she cherished the time spent with them.

She will be missed by her daughters, Mary O’Neill and her husband Jack of Clifton, N.J., and Jeannette Clayton and her husband Chris of Mount Gilead, her son Robert and his wife Jean of Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren, Robert (Nancy), John (Dyane), Tracy (Mike), Thomas and Michael; six great-grandchildren, Amy, Julie, Kevin, Tori, Lexi and Zoey.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Audley Jr. in 1994; her sister, Joan Meehan; and her brother, Thomas Porter.

Funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead, with Pastor Kelly Melvin officiating. Friends may call on the family from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Facility, Activities Fund.
