ASHLAND — Sarah Louella Burch, 96, of Ashland, died early Sunday morning, Sept. 5, 2010, at her residence.
She was born in Mount Vernon on Jan. 18, 1914, and was the daughter of the late John E. and Cassie (Clark) Swigart. She had lived in Ashland as a child and moved back to Mount Vernon where she graduated from Mount Vernon High School in the class of 1932. She graduated from Ashland College in 1934 with her teaching degree.
Sarah taught at Plymouth Elementary School for two years before her marriage on May 7, 1937, to Paul Burch. Mr. Burch preceded her in death on July 7, 1992. The couple moved to Hillsboro in 1940 and had been residents there until her husband’s death in 1992 and Sarah returned to Ashland. She had been a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Paul (Renee) Ward of Lexington, Christina Young of Ashland and Jonathan (Heather) Ward of Ashland; seven great-grandchildren, Sarah Ward, Michael Ward, Stephen Ward, Shane Casper, Sean Young, Coral Ward and Skyler Ward; and her son-in-law, Sterling (Biddy) Ward of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Burch; and her daughter, Beverly Ann Ward, on Jan. 29, 2000.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be in the Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon, on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 1:30 p.m. with Chaplain Gerald Gess officiating. There will be no calling hours.
