MOUNT VERNON — Helen Beatrice Huffman, 91, of Roosevelt Avenue, Mount Vernon, went to be with her Lord and Master on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Tazewell, Va., to the late Joseph and Mary (Bucklin) Smith. Helen was a member of the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. Helen was a wonderful person that loved everyone and did not judge. Her wish was for everyone to get along and love one another. She loved the annual family cookout on Labor Day and lived until the evening of Labor Day. She especially loved children and enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a beautiful person inside and out.
She is survived by her five daughters, Lucy (James) Kennedy of Oberlin, Mavis (John) Ellison of Vermillion, Mary (Linn) Freeman of Mount Vernon, Betty (Bryan) Tice of Mount Vernon and Ruth (Phil) Sigman of Mount Vernon; two sons, Bill Stacey of Mount Vernon and Tom (Theresa) Stacey of Canal Winchester; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 63 great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her first husband of 27 years, Clarence P. Stacey; her second husband of 34 years, Charles W. Huffman; her daughter, Altie Ellen Stacey; her son, Robert Huffman; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, George, Roy and Roger Smith; and two sisters, Hazel Butler and Nancy Wilson.
Friends may call Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2 p.m. with Brother William Kirk officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
