MOUNT VERNON — Patricia F. Whiteside, 85, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Centerburg, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
She was born Sept. 30, 1924, to Francis J. and Grace A. (Heming) Finn in Cumberland, Md. Mrs. Whiteside was a retired RN (registered nurse), who graduated from Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland, Md., in September 1945. She served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during World War II. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon.
Mrs. Whiteside is survived by her children, Patricia A. (Gary) Topping, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Dr. Timothy F. Whiteside, of Kailua, Hawaii; Robert P. (Mary Patricia) Whiteside, of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and Laura M. (Michael) Palahnuk, of Lenhartsville, Pa. She is also survived by grandchildren, SSgt. Lani Topping (TSgt. Nathan) Unger of Puyallup, Wash., Patrick Topping of Colorado Springs, Colo., Andrew Orr of Columbus, John Whiteside, of Columbus, and Cody Maxwell, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Michaela Orr, of Columbus, and Jonathan Earl Unger, of Puyallup, Wash.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Maryland and Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her brother, James Finn, of Silver Spring, Md.
Mrs. Whiteside was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Whiteside Richards; sisters, Dorothy LaMartina and Margaret J. Sneathen; cousin, Vincent Braman; and her dear aunt, H. Genevieve Heming, RN.
At Mrs. Whiteside’s request, she will be cremated and her ashes will be inurned in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Bedford, Pa.
