MOUNT VERNON — Wayne F. Bowden, 84, of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born May 26, 1926, to the late John and Ina (Wery) Bowden. Wayne was employed at Ohio Power, which later became American Electric Power from which he retired after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir, participated in the Appalachian Service Project (Missions), the Varsity Sunday School Class, was on the Music Committee, and was a former trustee. Wayne was a veteran serving in the United States Navy.
He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Lucille (Ryan) Bowden; two daughters, Cathy (Larry) Yarman of Mount Vernon and Julie (Jeff) Pillow of Howard; a son, Steve (Ruth Ann) Bowden of Mansfield; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan (Paul) Smithhisler of Amity and Jeannine Smithhisler of Mount Vernon.
Besides his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 N. Gay St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Denise Marikis officiating. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery.
