FREDERICKTOWN — Broadus Garrett, 80, of Pinkley Road, Fredericktown, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Columbia, Ky., to the late Alpha and Callie (Rasner) Garrett. Broadus served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He retired from the Fredericktown school system after 15 years of employment. Broadus was a member of the Fredericktown Church of God and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7671 of Fredericktown.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Yvonne (Knight) Garrett; his children, Michael (Sharon) Garrett of Lexington, Gilbert Garrett of Ashland, Pamela (Dave) Hackedorn of Mansfield and Vonda (Richard) Burch of Howard; nine grandchildren, Jason, Bryan and Bradley Hackedorn, Jessica Draper, Kaitlynn Vasilyeva, Holly Skelly, Heather, Caisse, Marissa and Jeremiah Burch; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Garrett; and a sister, Mabel Graves.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Forest Cemetery. Pastor Richard Prater will be officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fredericktown EMS or the Fredericktown Church of God.
