HOWARD — Carl E. Amos, 75, of Howard, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 14, 2010, at his home.
He was born April 7, 1935, in Woodsfield, son of the late Frank and Thelma (Steed) Amos. Carl was a retired zone manager for Ford Motor Co. in Cleveland with 43 years of faithful service and was an Army veteran. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville. Carl enjoyed hunting, golfing and boating in his spare time.
Carl is survived by his wife, Cecilia (Stocker) Amos, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1964; a daughter, Kimberly (Carl) Wirtz of Strongsville; grandchildren, Ryan, Austin and Devon Wirtz; his stepmother, Glenna Amos of New Matamoras; brothers, George (Terry) Amos and Frank (Jesse) Amos, both of New Matamoras, and John (Mary) Winland of Barnesville; and sisters, Doris Latimer, Frankie Ritchie and Barbara (Paul) Rinard, all of Woodsfield, Nancy Amos and Ruth (Gary) Cochran, both of New Matamoras, and Martha (Harold) Hickenbottom of Barnesville.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a brother, John Amos; and a sister, Mary Brubaugh.
The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A vigil service will follow the calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville with the Rev. Father F. Richard Snoke as the celebrant. Burial will be at a later date. Military honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council and will be observed following the Mass.
