MOUNT VERNON — Dr. Joseph Howard Nussbaum, M.D., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 12, 1939, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to the late Howard and Voyle (Seibel) Nussbaum. Dr. Nussbaum co-owned and operated Knox Gynecological Specialists Inc. He was a 1962 graduate of Bowling Green State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Science, and was a 1966 graduate of The Ohio State University where he received his Doctorate in Medical Science. Dr. Nussbaum served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the American Board of OB/GYN and Fellow American College of OB/GYN. Dr. Nussbaum enjoyed fly-fishing, hunting, cooking and woodworking, but most important to him was the quality time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christine (Nicholls) Nussbaum, whom he married June 24, 1962; two sons, John (Cindy) Nussbaum of Mount Vernon, James (Maria) Nussbaum of Mount Vernon; three daughters, Kathy (Doug) Davis of Columbus, Mary Beth Stone of Mount Vernon and Anne (Greg) Zytkowski of Hilliard; 11 grandchildren, Abbey, Emily and Maggie Nussbaum, A.J., Chris, Nick and John Davis, Christina and Catherine Stone, Jimmy and Jacklyn Nussbaum.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph R. Nussbaum; and a granddaughter, Isabella Christine Zytkowski.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. The family will observe a private graveside service, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, in Mound View Cemetery.
