MOUNT VERNON — Richard R. Robinson, 70, of McGugin Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 15, 1939, in Charleston, W.Va., to the late Carl and Margaret (Martin) Robinson. Dick was a 1957 graduate of Mount Vernon High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He retired in 2003 after 45-plus years from Cooper Energy Services. Dick was a member of The Shepherd’s House church and served on the CES Credit Union Board of Directors and Morris Township Trustee.
His love for sports carried over in the numerous years he spent refereeing or umpiring. Dick was licensed with the American Softball Association and the Ohio High School Athletic Association where he had refereed football and basketball for over 50 years. He is listed in the OHSAA Hall of Fame for basketball. His loving smile and joking ways will be missed dearly on the playing fields.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda (Gerard) Robinson; a son, Richard Scott (Lynne) Robinson of Belpre; two daughters, Kimberlee Sue (Mark) Norbut of Grove City and Kris Leann (Roxanne Wolford) Robinson of Mount Vernon; nine grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, D.J. and Gracelyn Robinson, Lindsey, Jacob, Maggie, Ellie and Olivia Norbut; a brother, Carl (Joy) Robinson; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou McKee.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. The family will observe a private graveside service in Mound View Cemetery.
