BELLVILLE — Steven Mathew Weiss, of Bellville, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 20, 2010, at home following a courageous five-month battle with cancer. He was 62.
Steve was born July 2, 1948, in Mansfield to William Fredrick and Naomi (Moury) Weiss. A graduate of Clear Fork High School, Steve served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a skilled mason, and contracted with Brumenshenkel Construction and was also self-employed.
An outdoors kind of guy, Steve spent many nights coon hunting. He also enjoyed fishing ... just about anywhere there was water. Steve loved the challenges of golf. The outdoor setting of the links and beautiful landscapes fit his personality perfectly. Patriotic and selfless, Steve proudly risked his life for his country, it was his duty as an American. Easygoing, Steve had a jolly disposition.
Steve is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Doug Thompson of West Milton; son, Chad Weiss of Bellville; his mother, Naomi Weiss of Bellville; grandchildren, Sean Weiss, and Rachel and Nathan Thompson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Jake Maness of Redstone, Colo., and Peggy and Roger Bowers of Dayton; aunt and uncle, Lillian and Robert Robinson of Fredericktown; and aunts, Donna Stevens of Abilene, Texas, and Roberta Smith of Orlando, Fla.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, William Fredrick “Bill” Weiss, on Aug. 16, 2010.
The Weiss family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where a memorial service celebrating the life of Steven Mathew Weiss will begin at 4 p.m. The Rev. Ken Kinley will officiate. Military honors performed by the American Legion Post 535 will be held at the funeral home following Steve’s memorial service.
