MOUNT VERNON — Karl C. George Jr., 74, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Cambridge and Dayton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Oct. 4, 2010, at the Knox Community Hospital.

He was born May 24, 1936, in Dayton to Karl C. George Sr. and Dorothy (Ellis) George. Karl’s confident faith in God’s presence and timing, and his clever sense of humor, were a blessing to his friends and loved ones.

Karl attended Kenyon College and the University of Dayton. He served in the Ohio Air Guard at Springfield and was on active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He started his employment with NCR in Dayton as a Draftsman in 1957, transferred to the Cambridge plant in 1973 and retired as an engineering manager in 1992 when the plant moved to Atlanta. Karl attended Christ Episcopal in Dayton, St. John’s Episcopal in Cambridge and Faith Lutheran in Mount Vernon.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Hunter) George, to whom he had been married for 54 years; one daughter, Ginger M. (Philip M.) Baerenwald of Rockford, Ill.; two grandsons, Devin August Baerenwald and Derek Karl Baerenwald; two sisters, Mary (Ken) Anderson of Massillon, and Elaine (Dr. Richard J.) Maynard of Lancaster; mother-in-law, Ida Hunter of Mount Vernon; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Karl will be held Nov. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Wildermuth officiating. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the George family.

The family has requested no floral tributes, memorial contributions may be made in Karl’s memory to one of the following organizations: Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave., Mount Vernon, OH; Knox Community Hospital Foundation, 1330 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon, OH; Hope Now, 1309 N. Mulberry St., Mount Vernon, OH; or Interchurch Social Services, 306 W. Gambier St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
