FREDERICKTOWN — Leland M. Hathaway, 97, of Follin Road, Fredericktown, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, in his farm home in Middlebury Township.
He was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Knox County to Lloyd and Neva (Murphy) Hathaway. He was a member of the Waterford Church of Christ and belonged to the Knox County Trustee and Clerk Association, Middlebury Grange and Local Farm Council.
He will be remembered as a quiet, kind, honest and hardworking man. He devoted his life to taking care of his family and his farm. His faith guided his actions and he set an example for others to follow. He enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop, going on trips with friends and most especially attending his grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ sporting events. He was indeed a loving and caring dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa who will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbors.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie (Al) Arens and Ronda Hathaway; a daughter-in-law, Lela Hathaway; grandchildren, Dan (Deb) Hathaway, Kim (Melissa) Hathaway, Gary (Karla) Arens and Cheryl (Mitchell) Bir; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Sydney, Dustin and Austin Hathaway, Adelyn and Nate Arens and Camryn and Lauren Bir.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife and lifelong partner, Lorilla; son, Darel; and brother, Donald.
Friends may call Monday, Oct. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 E. College St., Fredericktown, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery.
