GALENA — Franklin “DeWitt” Carpenter, 88, of Galena died Oct. 7, 2010, at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville.
He was born Feb. 16, 1922, in Centerburg to Chester “Clyde” and Esther “Helen” (Updike) Carpenter. He was a Centerburg High School graduate, was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and worked as air port traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Agency at Columbus and Lexington, Ky., retiring in 1977.
Survived by his wife, Jean A. (Bard); son, Dale of Galena; half son, Jeff Dauphin of Michigan; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Jane Carpenter of Centerburg.
Preceded in death by parents; and brother, Robert.
Friends may call Sunday, 1-3 and 5-7 p.m., at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where service will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Trenton Cemetery.
