HOWARD — Frank T. Wood Jr., 68, of Howard, formerly of Brinkhaven, passed away Oct. 11, 2010, at his residence after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born March 11, 1942, in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., to Frank T. and Mary Ellen (Williamson) Wood Sr. Frank retired as a microbiological researcher for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. He was also a U.S. Air force veteran and a Mason with the M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia 14.
He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Cindy (Wolverton) Wood; his children, Tim Calhoun-Wood of W.Va., Sandra Jones of W.Va., Vincent Wood of Washington, D.C., Jim (Ronda) Slaven of Pennsylvania and Katie Jackson of Mount Vernon; mother-in-law, Betty “Little Gramma” Wolverton of Westerville; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Stephen Wood of Cardington; sister-in-laws, Peggy (Louie) Bradshaw of Arizona, Brenda (Steve) Schmidt of Wapakoneta, Emily (John) Engle of Columbus; and numerous family and close friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James “Red” Wood.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Family will observe private celebration of life service.
