MOUNT VERNON — Larold “LD” Kohl, 81, of Martinsburg Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital.

Larold was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Bassett, Iowa, to the late William and Edna (Roberts) Kohl. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. LD owned and operated Kohl Excavating in Mount Vernon and enjoyed spending his free time fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Phyllis “Peachy” (Tharp) Kohl; a sister, Lois (Paul) Dailey of Mount Vernon; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Kohl, Lloyd Kohl and Blaine Kohl; three sisters, Iola June Kohl, Inez Davis and Alice Hagens.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Ben McKinstry will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
