MOUNT VERNON — Paul E. Smithhisler, 86, of Danville-Amity Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Loudonville to the late Ralph and Martha (Wolf) Smithhisler. Paul served in the U.S. Army at Pearl Harbor during World War II. He worked on the family dairy farm before retiring after 22 years of employment as an electrician for Chattanooga Glass. Paul was a member of the Moose Lodge and AMVETS Post 95, both of Mount Vernon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan Smithhisler; his children, Michael (Caroline) Smithhisler, Troy Smithhisler, Susan (Mike) Vilfer and Karen (David) Tedrow, all of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren, Jonas Smithhisler, Hali Smithhisler, Jason Smith, Ryan Cline, Ashley Neer, Michaela Cline, Aaron Tedrow, Lindsay Massa, Jennifer Flynn and Deborah Deboard; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Smithhisler of Butler; and a sister, Reda Robinson of Fredericktown.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Chad Smithhisler and Adam Tedrow; three brothers, Carl Smithhisler, Earl Smithhisler and an infant brother.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mound View Cemetery. The Rev. Lucian Baker will officiate.
