MOUNT VERNON — Gerald William “Uncle Bo” Bevington, 71, of Mount Vernon, passed away Oct. 26, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Mount Vernon and was the son of the late William E. and Gladys S. (Hall) Bevington. Gerald was a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge, AMVETS Post 95 and a past secretary for the Eagles. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and enjoyed anything outdoors especially fishing.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 16 years, Mary (Van Horn) Bevington; son, Jerry Lee (Linda) Bevington of Texas; daughter, Jamie Lynn (Chad Lance) Stutz of Mount Vernon; sister, Patricia (Walter) McCutchen of Homer; four grandchildren, Benjamin and Brian Bevington, and Caitlyn and Shelby Lance; brothers-in-law, Carl McDonald of Mount Vernon and Dick (Joyce Wilder) Van Horn of Howard; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Tom) Lahmon of Mount Vernon; mother-in-law, Norma Van Horn of Fredericktown; special canine friend, Willy; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Zaida Bevington; an infant son, Jeff Bevington; brother, Edward Lee Bevington; sister, Zondra McDonald, in July 2010; brothers, Gary Eugene and Bill Bevington; father-in-law, James Edward Van Horn; and his canine buddy, Jake.
Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Graveside funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Terry McLaughlin officiating. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
