MOUNT VERNON — George E. Hedges, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 28, 2010, at MedCentral in Mansfield following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Mount Vernon, son of the late Ralph and Aglae (Purre) Hedges. George was a supervisor for the former Kelsey-Hayes plant in Mount Vernon. He was an avid Ohio State football and basketball fan and a fan of the Cleveland Indians. George was a Navy veteran.

George is survived by his loving wife, Leva Ann (Levering) Hedges, whom he married July 21, 1986; sons, Bruce (Charlene) Walton of Mount Vernon, David (Darla) Johnson of Cardington and Mike Harvey of Arizona; daughters, Sharon (Steven) Bross of Utica and Lynne (Roger Maharg) McDaniel of Hana, Hawaii; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Hedges of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Adale Gamble of Mount Vernon.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. Pastor Roger Tickle will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
