CENTERBURG — Lt. Col. Owen D. Newell (U.S. Army retired), 91, Centerburg, died Nov. 6, 2010, at St. Ann’s Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born June 23, 1919, in Delaware County to the late James and Margerate (Swearengin) Newell. A veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Survived by wife, Betty Jane (Anderson); children, Gary (Gloria) Newell, Shirley Evans, Judy (Dick) Reid, Barbara (Walla) Disbennett and Rodney (Carolyn) Newell; several grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by son-in-law, Ken Evans; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services will follow at 4 p.m. with Jack Debolt officiating. Full military honors will be observed with burial at a later date in Northlawn Cemetery.
