FREDERICKTOWN — Robert D. Dial, 88, of Fredericktown, has gone home to be with our Lord and be met there by his loving wife of over 58 years, Catherine G. (Bostwick) Dial, on Nov. 6, 2010.

He was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Gambier to Donald F. and Neva M. (Heagren) Dial. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country in World War II in both European and the Pacific Theaters. He retired after 40-plus years at PPG. In his retirement he worked for 15 years at Cooper Energy Services as a security guard. He was a member of the First Church of God in Fredericktown and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert N. (Carol) Dial of Mount Vernon and Howard V. (Crystal) Pipes of Fredericktown; a daughter, Linda K. Williams of Gambier; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine; son, Ronald E. Dial; daughter, Carolyn Jane Zollars; two sisters, Dorothy L. Beeman and Thelma Maxine Coffield; and a brother, Edwin D. Dial.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery in Gambier. The Knox County Joint Veterans’ Council will conduct military graveside honors. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the Dial family.
