MOUNT VERNON — Barbara L. George, 72, passed away Nov. 6, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital and joined her husband, Karl, in the arms of Jesus.
She was born Oct. 6, 1938, in Gambier to Robert L. Hunter and Ida M. (Frazee) Hunter. Barbara’s joy, positive spirit, and trust in the Lord despite illness or adversity were an inspiration to her family and others.
Barbara met Karl during his time at Kenyon College. They were wed Oct. 12, 1957, lived in Dayton, and relocated to Cambridge in 1973. Barbara worked in numerous retail and administrative positions, and retired from her position as payroll clerk for the Cambridge City School District in 1998 after 16 years of service. She and Karl returned to Mount Vernon in 2007 where they were blessed by their membership and fellowship with the Faith Lutheran Church family, and were able to rekindle precious friendships and family ties.
She is survived by her mother, Ida Hunter of Mount Vernon; one daughter, Ginger M. (Philip M.) Baerenwald of Rockford, Ill.; two grandsons, Devin August Baerenwald and Derek Karl Baerenwald; cousins, numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
On Oct. 4, 2010, she was preceded in death by her husband, Karl C. George Jr. Also preceded in death by her son, Karl C. George III; father, Robert L. Hunter; and sister, S. Marie (Hunter) Wantland.
A joint memorial service to celebrate the lives of Barbara and Karl will be held Nov. 27 at 3 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Wildermuth officiating. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is handling the funeral arrangements for the George family.
The family has requested no floral tributes.
