MOUNT VERNON — Robert S. Mill, 95, of Yauger Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at his residence.

He was born May 22, 1915, in Centerburg to the late Thomas Cole and Gertrude (Saunders) Mill Sr. Robert moved to Mount Vernon in 1929 to live with his grandparents and work for his uncle Heck at the Heckler Rexall Drugstore. Robert graduated from Mount Vernon High School and attended Kenyon College on a football scholarship. He retired in 1978 from Cooper Energy Services after 42 years of employment as a draftsman. Robert was a 50-year member of Mount Zion Lodge 9 F&AM, Elks Club of Mount Vernon and Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed drawing, painting with watercolors and oils and making greeting cards specializing in roses.

He is survived by a cousin and caretaker, Barbara (Heckler) Perkins; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Brock Mill; and a brother, Thomas Cole Mill Jr.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Mound View Cemetery. The Rev. Warren Outhwaite will be officiating. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Robert S. Mill.
