MOUNT VERNON — David Walter Levering, 64, died unexpectedly Nov. 7, 2010, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born April 5, 1946, in Mount Vernon to the late Ray and Mary (Thomas) Levering. David was a lifelong resident of Knox County. He was a 1964 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 4027 and was active on the honor guard for the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. He enjoyed gardening, animals, and sharing time with his fellow veterans, family, and friends.

He is survived by his brother, Daniel Ray (Carole) Levering of Rochester, N.Y.; and his niece, Elizabeth (Mark) Weaver of Monroe, Ga.

Friends may call Friday, Nov. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. in Mound View Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made in David’s memory to VFW Post 4027, 306 W. Chestnut St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
