ST. LOUISVILLE — A funeral service for Bertha E. (Walker) Hickman, 90, of St. Louisville, will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, with the Rev. Roger Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.
Bertha passed away Nov. 10, 2010, at Selma Markowitz Hospice Care Center. She was born July 27, 1920, to the late Orville and Ada (Williams) Walker in Newark. She married her late husband, Russell Hickman on Oct. 17, 1940.
Mrs. Hickman was a 1938 graduate of Newark High School, member of the St. Louisville United Methodist Church and the Utica Friendly Senior Citizens. She was co-owner of Farmers Wholesale Inc. and Hickman Turkey Farm. She also worked for Johnson’s Lumber.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Sue (J.C.) Johnson; granddaughter, Sheryl L. Johnson; many nieces, nephews, wonderful neighbors and her good friend, Olive Albert at Flint Ridge; and all of the wonderful staff at Flint Ridge. Special thanks to the girls who stayed with her when she was at home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Hickman, who passed on July 17, 1994; infant son, David William Hickman, who passed May 3, 1942; eight brothers and sisters, Helen Walker, Calvin Walker, Edward Walker, Robert E. Walker, Emma Myers, Leona Richards, Ralph Walker and Dale Walker.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
