CENTERBURG — Helen L. White, 79, of Centerburg, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2010, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
She was born March 24, 1931, in Mount Liberty to the late Theodore and Maude (Slane) Dowden. A lifelong Centerburg resident, she was a homemaker who enjoyed antiquing. She was a member of the Centerburg United Methodist Church and member of the Knox Chapter No. 236 OES, Ladies Oriental Shrine Thea Court No. 5 and American Legion Auxiliary No. 460, Centerburg.
To Helen, her family meant everything and Sunday dinners with a sirloin tip roast was a time for the family to all sit down together and enjoy her delicious dinner. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s sporting events. Her front yard was a playground for all the kids in the neighborhood, where they enjoyed all kinds of sports.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Chalmer White Jr. and they were married Aug. 11, 1950, in Centerburg; son, Mike (Nancy) of Marysville, Pat (Taffy) of Centerburg and Chris of Centerburg; daughters, Susie White of Centerburg, Belinda “Lindy” (Todd) Seckerson of Hilliard and Kelly White of Hilliard; grandchildren, Kacy, Coby, Gretchen, Nicole, Jacob, Brendan, Caleb and Austin; two great-grandchildren; brother, Harold “Jake” (Mary) Dowden of Centerburg; and sisters, Josephine Workman of Cambridge and Bonnie Parnell of Mount Vernon.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Dowden; and sister, Ruth Hulse.
Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Centerburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Vicky Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery.
