MOUNT VERNON — Marjorie A. Algire, 86, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Marjorie was born April 26, 1924, in Mount Vernon to Carl E. and Dorothy L. (Hillier) Frye and had spent her lifetime in the Knox County area. She was a faithful member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, where she had served as their financial secretary for several years. She was a member of the Dan Emmett Grange and was a Gold Star Mother having lost her son in the Vietnam War. Marjorie enjoyed reading and word search puzzles but her passion in life was her grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn (Malcolm) Shrimplin of Fredericktown; two grandchildren, Malcolm R. Shrimplin and Tracy Lynn (Phillip) Rinehart; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Ethan; and her sister-in-law, Bettye Frye of Mount Vernon.
Besides her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Dean E. Algire; son, Roger Dean Algire; grandson, Zachary; and her brother, Bernard Frye.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 22, at 3 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Warren Outhwaite officiating. Private committal services will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 3 p.m.
