MOUNT VERNON — Chloris A. Fritz, 74, of Fairway Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 25, 1935, in Ashland to the late Thomas and Ouida Winifred (DeVore) Walker. Chloris served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1957. She retired in 1996 after 20 years of employment with the Civil Service of the U.S. Navy. Chloris volunteered from 2001 to present at the Mount Vernon High School library and she enjoyed baking at home for the teachers, students and friends. She was a strong supporter of music, theater and the Junior Miss program and in 2003 she was inducted into the National Honor Society as an honorary member.
She is survived by her loving husband, Blake Fritz, whom she married on Jan. 26, 1957; three sons, Thomas Fritz, Gregory Fritz and Michael Fritz; a granddaughter, Virginia Miller; a great-grandson; two sisters, Darlene Loriaux and Edythe Ferris; and close family, Cherryl Pursel, Jodi Pursel, Anne Orr and Heidi (Bill) Hanna.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Walker; and a sister, Ouida Opal Walker.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Adam Pursel will be officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
