NEWARK — Jean E. Holt, 93, of 2116 Valentina Lane, Newark, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at the residence.
She was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Canton to Charles F. and Alice (Davies) Klein. She received her teaching certificate at the Kent State University, and retired after 29 years of teaching at Tiverton, Warsaw and Danville schools. She married Harold G. Holt on June 8, 1941. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2003. Jean was a member and organist for many years at the Danville United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Retired Teachers’ Association and the Danville Garden Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilou (Ed) Tonnesen of Newark; sons, Jerry C. (Susan) Holt of Willow Street, Pa., and Daniel D. Holt of Sacramento, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Chris (Marie) Holt, Jessica (Jamie) Blattner, Miriam (Scott) Cassell, and Laura and Emily Holt.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant sister, Pauline.
A funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. The Rev. Jason Humble and Chaplain Tom Myers will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Visiting will be one hour prior to the service.
